In OER, Save equals more
Reading this week is very similar to reading last week. After reading a lot of research literature about OER, I have a feeling of saving equals more. OER helps students save money and also add more for the following:
- More Students can register for more courses.
- More Students not dropping out of courses.
- More Students are likely to succeed in their studies.
- Students have more access to learning materials.
- Students have more ways to access learning materials.
- Schools get more revenue.
Those are just some of the benefits I can remember, and I am sure OER has more to offer.
Another interesting thing this week is The Oer Adoption Impact Calculator. It represents some of the data that the OER will involve. When I tried to maximize the Number of Enrollments Using OER, I found that the students could save $2,340,000. This money can help an international student register for nearly 234 semesters of courses, and each semester is 3 courses. What an amazing figure it is.
Meanwhile, in the default case, we can also see that the Course Throughput Rate(CTR) of the students using OER is still 4.1% higher than that of the students who do not use OER. It seems that the use of OER in teaching can indeed improve the success rate of students in learning. I am not sure if this is the case in every school, but we can at least see that the use of OER has no negative impact on teaching and learning.
