OER leads to better Instruction
From this week's video, I can easily see that Dr.Morin is a person who is passionate about education. Not only that, I can see that she also has rich experience in OER. I am very happy that she will attend our class and provide us with something interesting.
When creating OER, teachers can customize content for their students. I have always felt that effective instruction is student-centered. For this reason, If teachers can customize the content according to their students when creating OER, I think it will make teaching more effective. Also, I believe that using things that students are familiar with as teaching materials will make teaching more meaningful and interesting. Students can learn useful knowledge and skills effectively in this interesting instruction. Imagine adding pictures and videos of students making their own products to the manual teaching books. How meaningful and interesting it would be!
Outdated and inaccurate information is a disservice to students. This point is so right! Dr.Morin talked about the shelf life date of the textbook in the video. It makes me wonder how many of the resources stored on my computer are out of date. This also reflects the benefits of OER in terms of students' spending. I am sure a lot of textbook developers are well aware of the fact that some of their content will be out of date, which is why they release newer versions of their books sometimes. However, the new textbooks have become more expensive than the old ones. This is why I like OER because we can update our textbooks in real-time while still using all the resources for free with OER. This is awesome!
No information is better than misinformation! Another super point. I cannot imagine the consequences of misinformation, and some of which could be deadly. Think of a student doing a chemical experiment because of the wrong teaching information and adding the wrong reagents to cause poisoning or other dangers. I cannot imagine the consequences. We all know that the devil is in the details. A rocket may explode because a screw failed to tighten. Small misinformation may not seem like much, but it can be dangerous. For this reason, I think we should not pretend to know what we do not know.
