What does the Build, Measure, Learn in the cycle mean?
This week I learn an interesting cycle called the Build-Measure-Learn Cycle:
The Build-Measure-Learn Cycle is the most important model of the Lean Startup Method. So what does the Build, Measure, Learn in this cycle mean?
- Build - make a prototype quickly or develop another method that allows you to test your hypothesis quickly and accurately
- Measure - measures the results
- Learn - learn from the results. This gives you new ideas to improve your product or service
This week's reading explains this process very well:
- Build - We describe the implications of designing for data collection, together with the instrumentation and tooling that must be built in order to collect the data necessary for continuous improvement.
- Measure - We describe the process of analyzing data in order to identify portions of the instructional materials that are not effectively supporting student learning.
- Learn - We discuss methods to use when reviewing less effective portions of the instructional materials and deciding what improvements to make before beginning the cycle again.
As an educator, you want to use OER, but you do not know what will succeed or fail. For this reason, you want to learn what works and what does not work. Here you can use the Build-Measure-Learn Cycle and think like a scientist. I can see how this Cycle works with OER. OER teaching materials' development involves multiple tests and modifications to suit different times, methods, and learners. The Build, Measure, Learn Cycle provides such infinite loop support for OER. This cycle will allow continuous improvement of OER in a planned way.
